The small town of the Kynžvart Spa is located in the woody countryside on the south-west slope of the Slavkov Forest in the utmost point of West Bohemia. Thanks to its location – the foothills have an altitude of 730 metres above sea level, up the boundary of ground fog, with high and stabile air humidity due to mixed forests around, high sunshine intensity and minimum pollutant content in the air – the Kynžvart Spa has specific climatic conditions used for treating children´s respiratory diseases. The spa was founded by the Metternich dynasty in the middle of the 19th century on the basis of research made on mineral springs, peloids and climatic conditions. The spa was originally intended to treat various indications with adult patients. However, in 1950, when children suffering from the pertussis epidemic were cured, the local climatic conditions proved to have a very strong therapeutic effect and since then the spa has specialized solely on children´s treatment. It is currently the only one spa resort in the Czech Republic with an exclusively children customer base.
